Community Development Director for Authentic Leadership Center (US)

maaikeboumans

I first joined ALIA, Authentic Leadership in Action, in 2013 as part of the Europe team responsible for organising the 5-day Leadership Intensives.

When ALIA transitioned into Authentic Leadership Center (ALC) at Naropa University, I helped shape the vision and strategy as part of a small stewarding team.

I later became the Community Development Director for Europe, supporting local Communities of Practice, co-organising a retreat "Retreat, Reflect, Renew" in Italy in March 2016, and a Foundations Program in the Netherlands in November 2016.

The Authentic Leadership community continues to be a great inspiration and I am ever grateful for it being my gateway into a spiritual practice. I feel deeply inspired by the teachers at ALIA and ALC, with its roots in the Shambhala tradition of Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche. His book "Shambhala. The Sacred Path of the Warrior" is one of my sources of inspiration in my own practice, as well as in my work of supporting communities and organisations making a positive change.

“Warriorship is a continual journey. To be a warrior is to learn to be genuine in every moment of your life.” - Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche

I pass on 3% of my income to the Global Alliance of Territorial Communities, a movement of indigenous people and local communities in Asia, Africa and Latin America. Together they represent 35 million people from 24 countries and help protect 958 million hectares of land.
