opening session Young Feminist Weekend, Oct 2020 - online due to Covid-19.
The Young Feminist Weekend aims to strengthen a younger feminist movement in the Netherlands. It was initiated by four alumni who participated in AGORA, a European wide summerschool for young feminists we hosted the year before. They felt the Netherlands needed a space just like that and were able to get their idea off the ground. How great is that?! The first edition took place in 2019. We’re currently in the midst of the second edition, exploring the question: "How can we use our difference to make a difference together?"
YFW is a highly participatory weekend. Participants co-create the program by a.o. being able to offer a peer to peer workshop, bringing a topic or question during Open Space, or stepping in to host a check-in or check-out during the weekend. The intention is to create space for conversation, build relationships among feminists and to build capacity for change by offering theory and tools around working with dialogue in systems change. In both editions I've worked with alumni who stepped in as apprentices, as they were eager to learn how to host these participatory processes and conversations themselves. Building capacity to build capacity.
2019 edition - impact
Participants from the first edition founded Young Feminist Ambassadors, a network of young feminist activists who are committed to creating a more equal society. I'm so incredibly proud! Check out their amazing work at: https://youngfeministambassador.nl/ (and do join if you consider yourself a young feminist activist)
“It was a great weekend together with fellow feminists, sharing experiences and expertise, working on future projects and discussing change in the Netherlands.” Floor van Schagen
“Coming together as women from al different backgrounds and leaving with the same strong feeling, is what I think one of the most beautiful things I kept from this weekend.” Lisanne van ‘t Riet
